The Latin word ubiquitous combines two questioning words, ubi, which means “where”, and quis, which means “who”. Thus, the person who is always there when a who-and-where question arises. The current sense of constancy includes the ancient idea that someone or something “ubiquitous” might just be an unwanted pest.
