Made famous by the late journalist Hunter S. Thompson, “gonzo”, supposedly derived from Portuguese, means a kind of decidedly non-objective reporting in which the reporter is the madcap center of the action. It probably derives from the beatnik expression “gone”, meaning “extremely cool”.
