Titera’s Tidbit: Lady Banks Rose
Sir Joseph Banks (1744-1820) collected hundreds of new plant species while accompanying Captain James Cook on the first voyage of the Endeavour. Knighted for his contribution, he transformed the magnificent Kew Royal Botanical Gardens into one of the world’s great plant collections. The flower genus Banksia was named for him, and the “Lady Banks rose” was named to honor his equally energetic wife, Dorothea.
