Titera’s Tidbit: Fog of War
Soldiers in combat know that, even with the best intelligence, the outcome of a battle can be hard to predict and the nature of the enemy difficult to obtain. Heavily used during the Vietnam War and ever since, the phrase “fog of war” owes to the German tactician Carl von Clausewitz, who likened combat to fog in that it “gives to things exaggerated dimensions and unnatural appearance.”
