— A kind of soft, plain, airy cotton fabric, “muslin” is perfect for wear in hot climates. It was first made in Mosul, Iraq, and traveled to Europe by way of Italian traders who called it mussolo. The French called it mousseline, the name by which it came into English in the Middle Ages.
