Titera’s Tidbit: Greyhound
In Old-English, a gridhund was a female hunting dog of no particular breed. Over time, the term came to be applied to a particular kind of hunting dog, bred for its slender body and terrific speed, the forerunner — so to speak — of the modern “greyhound”. The breed’s color is indeed predominantly gray, but the creature’s name has no connection to that fact.
