Formed in 1919 as the Green Bay Indians, the Wisconsin football team was coached by a man whose day job was at a meat packing plant. He approached the owners for funding for uniforms and equipment, and a deal was struck. The Indian Packing Company would pay the tab, and the team would change its name to the Packers.
