Titera’s Tidbit: Christmas
In an Old English approximation of a Latin original, the Cristes moesse is the “mass of Christ”, denoting the festival period from December 25 to January 6, or the “twelve days of Christmas”. The festival was usually abbreviated Xmas, the X being the Greek letter chi, the first letter of Christ’s name in that language.
